We can hardly believe we’re writing this, but Charlie—the Golden Retriever rescued from the Yulin Meat Festival—has officially been ADOPTED. After everything he survived, after every dollar raised and every mile traveled, this beautiful boy is finally home. His road to recovery has been nothing short of incredible. Let’s look back at the journey that brought him here.

Charlie’s story began in tragedy. He was rescued from the Yulin Dog Meat Festival and moved to a more secure location, but he was still far from being safe. His freedom depended on one thing: raising $3,000 for a flight to freedom. At the time, we were still $2,645 short. Our rescue was stretched to its absolute limit, running multiple fundraisers and trying to provide for the dogs already depending on us. It was heartbreaking knowing that the only obstacle standing between Charlie and a better future was funding.

And then, you showed up—the CUDDLY community. Donations poured in. Share by share, gift by gift, Charlie’s flight was FUNDED. We secured his ticket to freedom, and soon he was on his way to the United States, leaving fear and uncertainty behind. When he landed in Florida, he received a full medical checkup and began decompressing in a loving foster home. For the first time, Charlie experienced soft beds, steady meals, and the simple comfort of stability.

While this was a tremendous step forward, there were still hurdles to cross. Charlie began eye ointment for chronic irritation while we waited for the results of his bloodwork. Our vets warned us there was a strong chance—about 90%—that he would need entropion surgery in both eyes, a procedure estimated at $900. His comfort and long-term health were our priority. Even while healing and facing surgery, Charlie’s personality shone through. He truly has a larger-than-life presence.

And then, at just the right moment in Charlie’s healing journey, the right family came along. Though Charlie was still recovering from surgery, the opportunity was too perfect to pass up. Kacy and Daniel opened their hearts and home to this joyful, goofy, resilient boy. From the moment they met him, it was clear—this was forever.

Today, Charlie is exactly where he was always meant to be. He has warm beds, patient guidance, happy training days, and a family who adores him. The Golden Retriever who once depended on compassionate strangers to fund his freedom is now living a life filled with unconditional love. To everyone who donated, shared, and believed in him—THANK YOU. You didn’t just fund a flight. You gave a survivor his happily ever after. Welcome home, sweet Charlie!
