If you could see her now, you might never believe where she started. Today, we are thrilled to share that Professor Merry has been adopted! She is finally curled up in a loving home, wrapped in warmth and safety, surrounded by people who adore her. It’s almost impossible to imagine that this same tiny soul was once alone, trembling in the weeds, barely clinging to life.
Merry was just four pounds when we found her. Her toenails were so long and painfully curled that walking was a struggle. Her frail body was shutting down from severe dehydration. She was rushed straight to the emergency vet, where she was hospitalized immediately and placed on IV fluids just to stabilize her. Even then, it was unclear if she would make it. She couldn’t drink on her own, she didn’t know how to eat properly, and her body was overwhelmed with parasites. Every moment was critical.
We dressed her in a tiny sweater just to keep her fragile body warm, because she didn’t even have the strength to regulate her own temperature. She was so close to slipping away, but she didn’t give up. And neither did you.
Because of your support, Prof. Merry received the constant care she desperately needed—fluids, medications, nourishment, and the gentle, patient love that slowly reminded her what it meant to feel safe again. Day by day, against all odds, she began to fight her way back. It truly is a miracle she survived.
And then, something beautiful happened. A family, still carrying the deep ache of losing their beloved dog, came into her life. Their hearts were heavy with grief, but when they met Merry, something shifted. In this tiny girl, they found hope again. And in them, Merry found everything she had ever been missing.
Now, she will spend the rest of her life exactly as she should have from the very beginning. And in return, we know she will help mend the broken pieces of a family who needed her just as much as she needed them. This is what rescue is all about. This is why we fight.
