Ed And His Cats

We can hardly believe a full year has passed since we first introduced the CUDDLY community to Ed. This incredible 94-year-old veteran, who once lived in a tent beside a colony of over 30 cats, has seen his life transform thanks to the kindness of complete strangers. Today, Ed and his beloved animals are supported and thriving, and our hearts are overflowing with joy. But before we break out the confetti, let’s take a moment to look back on how far this incredible journey has carried us.

When our team first met Ed, we were instantly, deeply moved by his kindness. Despite recovering from pneumonia and facing the physical challenges of age, he continued to walk long distances daily just to feed the community cats who depended on him. With his scooter broken, he spent over an hour on foot hauling food, often going without food himself just to make sure his cats were okay. He never complained. His only concern was making sure the innocent lives counting on him didn’t go hungry.

Right away, our team knew we had to step in for this selfless veteran. This was a man who had given his entire life to serving others. First, his country, and then the animals who had no one else to rely on. We were eager to get started, but we knew we couldn’t tackle this endeavor by ourselves. We turned to the CUDDLY community, hoping someone would hear Ed’s story and want to help carry the weight he had been bearing alone for so long.

And to our surprise and delight, this animal-loving community did more than that. You showed up in ways we never could have imagined. Practically overnight, donations of funds and cat food came pouring in. Your urgent response allowed us to deliver cases of wet food and bags of dry food just in time. And on Ed’s birthday, your generosity became the greatest gift he could have asked for. Peace of mind. For the first time in a long time, he didn’t have to worry about how he would feed his beloved cats.

We were already moved to tears by the help we had received, but the support didn’t stop there. As more and more generous donations rolled in, our team secured a storage unit to hold the incredible amount of food gifted to Ed for his cat colony. Ed was blown away by the support of so many people he had never met. His cats (and even a few raccoons he lovingly cares for) finally had consistent access to the nourishment they needed to stay healthy.

Just when it seemed like all the miracles had already happened, there came yet another moment that absolutely restored our faith in humanity. With continued support, Ed was able to purchase a truck. This gift completely changed his life. No more exhausting trips on foot or struggling to carry heavy supplies by himself using his wheelchair. For the first time in years, Ed felt ease and comfort as he continued the compassionate work he loves so deeply.

Throughout this entire profound journey, one thing never changed: Ed’s heart. He remains just as devoted, just as selfless, and just as committed to his animals as he was the day we met him. He chose to stay by their side, refusing to leave them behind, finding his greatest joy in caring for the lives that depended on him.
