Maisie
Maisie’s story once felt impossibly heavy, filled with loss, fear, and a fight for survival that nearly broke our hearts. But today, we get to share something different. Something beautiful. Maisie is alive, healing, and she has officially found her forever home. Because of you, her story did not end in tragedy. When Maisie first came into our care, she was in the middle of a nightmare.
Pregnant and without proper care, she went into labor at the shelter. She delivered seven puppies—six alive, one stillborn. We rushed to bring her and her babies to safety, hoping the worst was behind her. But it wasn’t. Within days, we began losing puppies. One by one, they slipped away, leaving us searching for answers. Maisie seemed stable at first… until suddenly, she wasn’t. When her condition took a turn, we raced her to the emergency room, fearing the worst. What the veterinarians discovered was devastating.
Two more deceased puppies were still trapped inside her body, causing a life-threatening infection. Maisie was going septic. Her body was shutting down as toxins spread through her system. She was rushed into emergency surgery—a grueling six-hour procedure where doctors fought to save her life. Her uterus had ruptured. The puppies had been pushed up toward her ribcage. Her blood pressure dropped dangerously low during surgery, and at times, it was unclear if she would make it through. But Maisie fought. And somehow, she made it.
The days that followed were fragile. Maisie required intensive care, a feeding tube, constant monitoring, and round-the-clock support just to stabilize. But slowly, she began to show us signs of hope. She started eating again. Her medications were reduced. Her body, against all odds, began to heal.
Soon, she was strong enough to leave the hospital and transition into a loving foster home, where she continued her recovery surrounded by warmth and care. Her foster worked tirelessly—feeding her every few hours, providing hydrotherapy, watching every small change. Her two surviving puppies have also been holding on, growing stronger each day in their own dedicated foster home. Fed around the clock, they were gaining weight, becoming more active, and showing us that they, too, are fighters—just like their mama.
And then, the moment we had all been hoping for finally came. Maisie has been ADOPTED. After everything she endured, including the loss of five babies, the fight against sepsis, the emergency surgery that nearly took her life, Maisie is now safe in a home where she will never know that kind of suffering again. Today, we are allowing ourselves to celebrate just how far this family has come.
To everyone who stood by Maisie during her darkest moments, those who donated, shared her story, and refused to give up on her, thank you from the bottom of our hearts. You are the reason she is here today. You are the reason her story has a happy ending. Welcome home, sweet Maisie. We’re so proud of you!
