Derby had a long road ahead of him, from fighting two damaged eyes to an oral ulcer. But now, thanks to your unwavering support, his resilience has finally paid off as he has found herself a forever home.

When Derby first came to us from the local shelter, both of his eyes were severely damaged, forcing him to navigate a world of blurry shapes and shadows. One eye was on the brink of rupture, the other likely already lost, and watching him stumble around in pain broke our hearts. We knew immediately that Derby's quality of life depended on swift, compassionate action.

At his first vet visit, Derby's right eye was dangerously close to rupturing, and his left eye wasn't doing much better. The right eye ultimately ruptured and had to be removed during his neuter that November. His foster diligently administered drops to his remaining eye every day, but Derby still needed a specialized ophthalmology consult to determine whether that eye could be saved at all.

Just when it seemed Derby might finally catch a break, he ended up at urgent care after showing signs of pain and excessive drooling. There he was diagnosed with an oral ulcer, possibly from chewing on a cord, and started on antibiotics to help him heal. His ophthalmology consult brought more news: Derby would need entropion surgery to correct his eye and prevent further irritation and damage. It felt like one challenge after another, but through it all, Derby persevered and was as strong as ever.

Derby underwent his entropion surgery, and his recovery could not have gone more smoothly. His eyes looked more comfortable almost immediately, and thanks to the devoted care of his foster mom, he rested and healed beautifully. Watching him grow more comfortable in his own body, after everything he had been through, was a turning point we won't forget.

And then came the moment we had been hoping for all along. Derby found his forever home. After losing an eye, fighting to save his sight, enduring surgery after surgery, and never once losing his spirit, Derby was no longer forced to deal with the world alone, he now has a compassionate and loving family to support him.
