Tofu

When Tofu was initially found, his back leg had been devastated by trauma, likely from being struck by a distracted motorist, and larvae had consumed nearly all of the tissue down to the bone at his hip. He was in excruciating pain, crying out as rescuers worked to get him help. Cats in situations like his are so often overlooked, but Tofu's pain was real, and his life mattered just as much as any other animal's. So we immediately got to work.

He was rushed to the hospital, where medication was started immediately to ease his suffering, but the infestation and risk of infection were too severe to wait. With sepsis a real and immediate threat, a heartbreaking decision was made: amputation was the only way to save his life. Tofu went into surgery and it was a success, though his fight was far from over. He remained severely dehydrated, was closely monitored for infection, and was tested for FIV and FeLV as part of his critical recovery.

Slowly, Tofu began to heal. He proved to be a true fighter. He learned to walk on three legs like a champion almost immediately, adapting with a resilience that amazed everyone caring for him. Through it all, Tofu remained an incredibly affectionate, loving little guy, and it became clear he was ready to find a family of his own.

That family found him… Tofu was adopted! Finally leaving behind the pain of his past and stepping into a new life filled with love, comfort, and safety. Exactly the happy ending he deserved after everything he survived.
