Koda was brought to Northwest Florida Great Dane Rescue in terrible condition. He was eight years old and weighed almost 200 pounds. Koda was one of the heaviest and biggest dogs they had ever seen. He was surrendered to the shelter because his owners said they could no longer take care of him or pay for his thyroid medication. At 200 lbs, he was overweight; he should have been around 165-175 lbs. However, what he lacked in health, he more than made up for in kindness; he is such a gentle giant.
Besides simply being very overweight, he came to them with kennel cough and infected eyes. Koda was filthy and covered in painful-looking raw spots and oozing pressure sores. He had what looked to be mange covering his chest and his back legs, he had a lot of fur missing where the skin underneath was inflamed or bleeding. Additionally, he had a large liquid-feeling tumor under his belly and one on his chest and shoulder.
At this point, Koda's rescue created a CUDDLY campaign to support his medical care. Thanks to everyone who donated through CUDDLY, Koda was able to get the treatment he needed. Koda was able to get down to a healthy weight and have his ailments successfully treated. Once he was cleared for adoption by the vet, Koda was adopted by his foster mother. When his rescue went to post him online as available, she broke down in tears and couldn't let him go. He is the biggest sweetheart and deserves his happy ending with his new mommy.
