This sweet shy gal was found near the Rincón Beach Resort during a thunderstorm. Shaking, completely still and wet on the side of the road she was picked up by a kind person who asked around to the neighbors if any of them recognized her. Her picture was posted to local community groups as well to see if anyone could claim her. Nobody stepped up. Gladys (as we named her) was very scared and had no idea what was happening to her.
Besides being covered in fleas and hookworm, she was heart worm positive and had a heart murmur. On a scale of 1-6 for murmurs hers was a 4. While heart worm is treatable, for Gladys this will mean she needed the slow method which meant months of medication and close monitoring of congestive heart failure. On top of all of this, sweet Gladys had several lumps around her body.
Gladys family failed her once they realized she was not healthy. Instead of finding the best solution for her illness or in the least preventing the heart worm by a simple pill every month, they let her slowly decline until they no longer wanted to deal with her. Defensa knew they needed help telling this girl's story so they reached out to CUDDLY and started a campaign for her. Throughout her recovery journey, Defensa was not only able to update all of their supporters each time they had news about this girl, but they were also able to raise hundreds of dollars towards her ongoing treatment.
The New Year came around and Defensa was finally able to get a clean bill of health for Gladys to fly to the states to her furever home! We are so happy for this sweet soul. She has found a family that will soak up all the love she has to give. Thank you to our animal loving community for giving this girl a fighting chance by donating and sharing her story!
