He came in with no life in his eyes, no name, no hair, and had obviously been living without two very important things for a long time - food and love. This very skinny boy came in from Forth Worth Animal Care and Control. Rescuers did not know how he ended up at this point, all they knew was that he very much deserved a second chance. Those at Animal Hope Pet Adoptions took it upon themselves to make sure whatever needed to be done, would be done to ensure this sweetheart survived.

He was anemic, emaciated, and heartworm positive. He was covered in ticks, his skin was sloughing off because of demodectic mange, secondary skin infections, and a huge abscess on his chest. His list of issues could go on and on. This type of case is very, very difficult to manage because of how many different organ systems are impacted by the breaking down of tissues trying to heal. Doctors had to keep a very close eye on his lab work, as severely malnourished animals (and people!) are vulnerable to “refeeding syndrome” when they start getting adequate nutrition. His tests revealed he had an elevated white cell count due to extensive secondary infections in his skin and elevated liver values.

Since coming into the rescue, he started to eat. He would even lick his plate clean! He began wagging his tail and he finally got a spark in his eyes. He proved to be strong and resilient. After only three weeks, significant differences were already noticed. He transformed into a happy, tail-waggin' boy who loves snacks and going for strolls with his caregivers. It's clear he was surely very grateful for the care he's gone so long without receiving.

Well, the once nameless, malnourished, hairless dog that rescuers were not sure would make it when he first arrived, is a miracle who finally received two things that he had been lacking for far too long…He FINALLY got a name and that's not it, a loving home too! Nameless Boy is now Elie! Named after Elie Wiesel, a Holocaust survivor. Elie's adopter thought the name fit him perfectly because he has been through the worst but still remains a happy boy. Thank you to his CUDDLY supporters who sent him an item while he was recovering, made a donation to his medical care, and shared his story. It truly takes a village to make a transformation like Elie's, and we cannot thank you enough!
