Ansem

Where to begin with a story like Ansem? He was a stray on the streets of south Texas in Katy. He had been neglected, abandoned, and he was getting closer to death on the street every day.

When you first look at his initial pictures, it was hard for people to see the Siberian soul within. He was a shadow of what he could be, but his love and his heart were kind and sweet. He had endured so much mistreatment, but he was still willing to love.

He found himself safely in the care of an open admittance shelter, Harris County Pets. When they knew his care would well exceed their capabilities there, they reached out for rescue support. We opened our hearts and our home to him and the nation took in his story and wrapped their arms around him in love and support. Donations poured in, items and food, and toys!

Ansem had never known so much love in his life, what a lucky dog to have so many people invested in his recovery process!

Multiple surgical procedures were needed. He had teeth extracted, a neuter, an abdominal ultrasound, a mass removal... and he was friendly and sweet through it all.

Baths every 3 days, meds twice a day, carefully refeeding his starved body.... he endured so much and did it all with a smile.

Today when he hopped right up into his adopter's car ready to put Texas in his rearview, I had tears in my eyes. Yes, I was sad to see him go, but I had always known this was not his permanent stop. We are here to get them back on their feet and place them with those that can give them safety and security through the rest of their lives. I will miss him around the house, but his adoption opens us up for another dog to come in and there is always another dog out there needing us.

Ansem taught us so much about life and living with love through adversity. We could not do this work and have stories like Ansem's without the support of donors and a community behind us that loves these dogs from afar.

Thank you, everyone, that sent funds, food, toys, treats.... You made this journey a reality.

Welcome Home, Ansem. May you have many happy years filled with enough love to make up for the worst times of your life. Welcome Home.
