Sammy

The trusting Labrador who was burned and blinded by a cruel act of violence is now curled up and SAFE in a home of his own. After surviving the unimaginable, Sammy has been adopted by a family who loves him deeply. This is his story!

Like so many Labs, Sammy believed every person was a friend. One day, he wandered up to the wrong human, and that trust was used against him. Instead of offering a pat on the head or a bite of food, the person attached firecrackers to his face and set them off. The blasts caused severe burns across his face and devastating injuries to his eyes. Locals heard his screams and followed them to find him. With no vet nearby, they took him in for the night, offering water and comfort as best they could, and reached out for help. When we saw the videos of his burned, swollen face, we left right away to get him.

Up close, the damage was even worse. The burns around his eyes were deep and infected, and our doctors feared both eyes were beyond saving. His body told the story of a long, hard life on the streets: skin infections, parasites, malnutrition, a dull and patchy coat, and sores from lying on hard ground. We started him on antibiotics, strong pain medication, gentle wound care, and full diagnostic testing, with surgery planned to address his damaged eyes once he was stable enough.

Through all of it, Sammy never lost his sweetness. In a world that had gone dark in a single violent moment, he bumped into walls and startled at unexpected sounds, yet when someone spoke to him softly, his tail still wagged. After everything humans had done to him, he still leaned into a gentle touch. With your support, he received surgery, weeks of careful treatment, and specialist care, and he handled every step like an absolute champ. Along the way, he even found a best friend in Jimmy, a fellow survivor who became his inseparable companion at the sanctuary.

Today, Sammy has completely changed the ending of his story. He has been adopted by a wonderful family who cares deeply for dogs and already spends their time feeding and caring for many dogs in their community. They see Sammy for exactly who he is and are committed to giving him the safe, happy life he always deserved. It is hard to believe this is the same dog who came to us so broken and frightened.
